Genesis 1:26 (NKJV)
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Why are so many disappointed in and fail living their lives for God? Could it be we are living our lives for self instead of for God. We claim to be filled with the Spirit of God, yet we are living off a diet of worldly lust.
People complain saying I tried Christianity, and it did not work for me. That is understandable. I drove a car that sputtered down the road. When I discovered the problem, I found out it was not the car’s fault it sputtered down the road. It was what was put in the gas tank. Cars motors were not meant to run off water. They say keep your tank full of gas so condensation will not build up inside the gas tank. (Ephesians 5:18)
We wonder why our faith in Christ faulters. It is not that the Bible is wrong in its assertion of being able to live a successful Christian life. It is because we allow the wrong things into our lives. Adam was created in the image and likeness of God. When he allowed Satan’s influence to guide him then he failed to live the successful life God intended for him to have. We displace God with satanic influence. And yes, anything that is not of God is of the devil.
How do we stay filled with God and not the world? Paul writes in Philippians 3:12 “Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.” We must make Christ our goal in life. Jesus says in Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” We get the best out of life by putting the best of life into our lives. Jesus far exceeds the best and never disappoints. The false image of Christ will always disappoint.
Satan disappointed Adam and Eve. He promised them they could be like God by not listening to God. Genesis 3:4-5 “Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” We become disappointed in God by listening to the voice of the world instead of listening to God. John 8:47 “He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”
