1 Peter 2:9-10
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
This is a powerful passage that speaks to identity and belonging in Christ.
If you call yourself a Christian remember who you are and to whom you belong. Before accepting Christ’s salvation in our lives, we lived for the world. Now that Christ lives in us, we are to live our lives for Him.
Christians live their lives in and through the power of God’s Holy Spirit who lives in them. Christians no longer live in the darkness of sin and the degradation of this world.
What has God given his people:
· Salvation through Jesus Christ: the greatest gift ever given and received.
· Grace and mercy: God’s love is unconditional.
· The Holy Spirit our helper and comforter and the One who empowers our lives.
· Community and fellowship – The church and Christian relationships that strengthens our faith.
· God gives us purpose and calling. Each Christian is given unique gifts to serve and glorify God.
· Provision and Care – God provides for our needs.
· Hope and Peace: Even in the darkest days and the trials of life God brings us comfort and assurance through our relationship with Him through our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.
It is sad to see a person profess with their mouth Jesus as savior and then live for the world. The two do not go together.
