Colossians 3:14 “But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.”
Love above all things. Love includes mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering, and forgiveness.
The love of Christ loves. Love does not only love those who love us, we love those who hate us, who stand against us. Jesus is the ultimate example of love. Christ paid for our sin even while we were still sinning against Him. “Romans 5:6, “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Christ in Our Place.”
We cannot love as Christ loved if we do not have Christ living, loving in us.
Mark 12:29–31 (NKJV)
29 Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one. 30 And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. 31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
