Psalm 27:4–6 (NKJV)
4 One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple.
5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.
6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me;
Therefore, I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.
What was most important to David? He desired the presence of God in his life. David wanted to live in uninterrupted enjoyment of God’s presence throughout his life.
David hungered to live in God’s presence to behold or gaze upon the beauty of God.
David wanted to live in the Lord’s presence to enquire or seek Him. Many people turn to God only in times of trouble, but not David. He was not one to seek God only when he needed something from Him. He knew that his relationship with God was the most important thing he could pursue.
Growing up, many times I would walk to church during the week and go into the sanctuary and just sit there by myself with God. (In those days the church doors were not locked.) I wanted to be in the presence of God in His sanctuary. Today I still enjoy being in the presence of God in His sanctuary. I also love to be in church on Sunday with others in fellowship and worship of God.
Hebrews 10:23–25 “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
