Hebrews 10:24–25 (NKJV)
24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,
25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
I never thought about attending church as an act of love. It is! It is our love for God and it is our love for fellow Christians.
Fellowship with God is not a selfish act. In fellowshipping with God we must also fellowship with other Christians. Warren Wiersbe writes “The emphasis is not on what a believer gets from the assembly, but rather on what he can contribute to the assembly.” The more you give the more you receive.
Our faithfulness in church attendance encourages others and generates in them love and good works.
In corporate worship we focus on God and in doing so we give attention to each other. We show love to one another. What are we to pay attention to? We are to “stir up love and good works.” 1 John 4:20 says, “If someone says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?”
Corporate worship is an act of love! We do not know what another person is going through in life. We do not know the pain, the heartache, the struggle another has endured during the week.
I read this, “Love is an act and not a word.” I have always said words are cheap. Anyone can speak words. Action takes effort.
John 13:34–35 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
