Daily Devotion Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to Him, and he will make your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight you path”
We may not understand the moment we live in. God does.
We may not understand why certain things happen. God does.
Satan attacks in various ways. Sometimes it is through direct hits. Sometimes it is camouflaged. Sometimes we know the enemy. Sometimes it is through those we have put our trust in. Sometimes we think we know the enemy but there is great deception.
A Christian life not tested is a life that does not grow. James writes in chapter 1:2-4. “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
In school we had tests. The tests measured our knowledge and understanding, our comprehension of the subject we were studying. We are tested in our Christian faith. How much do we trust God? Do we really believe what we profess? Do we just trust God when everything is good? Are we just superficial in our faith? It is easy to profess Christ when things are going well. It is easy to sing the praises of God in the warmth of a bright sunshiny day. But what happens when the darkness of night approaches?
I’m writing my Daily Devotion on my Ipad this morning because I cannot get my laptop to connect to the internet. We had a storm last night that knocked out our power for a short while. Oh, the storms of life. I love the preachers who spew out the “prosperity gospel”, who promise the great fortunes of God in material and financial blessings. Oh, if they were only true. Not really, the storms prove our faith.
I realize the true blessings of God are often found in the darkest times of our lives. The true believers in Christ are the ones who endure the storms, they live through the darkness of life knowing God is with them. God is faithful. The faithful know God says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you…” Deuteronomy 31:6-8.
Sometimes we discover the worst enemy we have is the one looking back at us in the mirror. Each individual Christian must take account of himself. Are we fulfilling God’s call in our lives. Are we going to church just to receive God’s blessing or are we going to fulfill what Hebrews 10:22 says, “let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.”
In verses 23 and 24 it gives these very important words, “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works:” I would be remiss if I did not include verse 25, “Not forsaking the assembly of ourselves together, as the manner of some is…”
Stand fast, Stand firm in your profession of faith.
