Daily Devotion (August 3, 2024)

Colossians 2:6–7
6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,
7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

Simply put, walk the talk. The words of Paul are strong. They are a call to military discipline. Just as we received Christ by faith, we are to walk by faith continually trusting Him. We were saved by the blood of Jesus, His death on the cross. We are to continue to trust in Him as we walk through each day. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 5:7, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Sadly, so many cannot walk the talk because the only “salvation” some have is a head knowledge of Christ. Romans 10:9, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus AND believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Understand Satan has more head knowledge of God than we will ever have, and he will be spending eternity in the Lake of Fire.

One’s belief and acceptance of Christ brings a profound transformation in life. The focus of allegiance moves from Satan to Christ. Before accepting Christ, we walked the walk of Satan. Now we walk the walk of Christ. Paul writes in Ephesians 4:1 “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called.”

Christians are to be rooted in Jesus Christ. If we are to be strong in Christ, then we must have strong roots. We are to be grounded in the Word of God. We have too many superficial Christians with shallow roots. A tree only grows as strong as its roots. Where we are planted determines the outcome of our lives. Our values, relationships, and experiences all play a vital role in shaping who we are. This is true in the Christian life.

In the Christian life our foundation determines our strength. We can be built upon the sinking sand of stinking thinking of some shallow theology, and we will be washed away. Or we can be built upon the Solid Rock of Jesus Christ and grow and flourish in our faith.

Psalm 118:22 “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.”
Matthew 7:24–25 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”
