Ephesians 6:14–16 (NKJV)
14Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
15and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
Truth! The Word of God. How much do you know it? I have studied the Bible for decades and still find myself learning, I want to say new truths, but they are not new truths. They are the truths of God either just found in Scripture or revealed to me. Truth does not change. Absolute truths are seen as unchanging, they are immutable—what is true remains true regardless of circumstances or time.
God is Truth! He never changes. Unless we accept God’s Truth as absolute truth then we can never move forward in our relationship with Him. If our relationship with Him is not established, then all other relationships will falter.
The belt of truth was important to the soldier. It allowed the soldier’s clothing to be held next to his body and gave the soldier the freedom of movement. The belt of God’s Truth must be worn by the Christian. The sign of the Christian soldier is the belt of truth. This truth is the Word of God! Christians MUST know the Word of God! This truth is not ego-centric truth. Man’s truth is finite. The truth coming from man is small and changing. There was a time when people thought the earth was flat, a false truth, only to discover the earth is round. If we want to know the earth is round, read the Bible. Isaiah 40:22 tells us, “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.”
Another verse is Job 26:7, which says: “He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing.” This paints a picture of the Earth suspended in space, which aligns with our modern understanding of the planet in the cosmos. Biblical texts can reflect truths we now understand through science. The most basic truth we need to know is John 3:16. When we accept this truth then we open the door for God to reveal more of His truth to us. Knowing the truth of God’s Word is so important we must place great emphasis on learning and living His Word. Psalm 119:11 “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.”
