Daily Devotion (December 8, 2024)
Joshua 1:7-9 “Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Faith, courage, and unwavering obedience to God. The only way Joshua could do what God called him to do was to depend upon and be obedient to God.
The only way we can do what God called us to do is to depend upon and be obedient to God.
Joshua depended upon God. God commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous and to be faithful to the laws of God.
We are called to trust God. We are to live according to God’s Word. We are to daily commit ourselves to God and follow His guidance. It is not easy. It takes courage and strength.
Look who showed courage and strength in the Bible:
King David is known for his faith. He faced the giant Goliath with just a sling and five stones.
When Daniel continued to pray to God despite the king’s decree, he was thrown into a den of lions.
Esther showed bravery and reliance upon God by going before the king to save the Israelites.
Paul gave up his high position as a leader in Israel to follow Jesus. He, the once persecutor of Christians became the persecuted follower of Jesus.
God has not promised us an easy road to travel in being followers of Christ. He has called us to be strong and very courageous in following Him. “Have I not commanded you…Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
1 Corinthians 16:13: “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.”
