Daily Devotion (January 13, 2025)

Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Psalm 23 “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.”

How do you begin your day? I start with my morning devotion. Reading the Bible and listening to God. The world is a terrible place to live in. There is so much evil. You turn on the news and you do not see the good that is happening. You see cities burning, violence on subways, anger, violence and people living lives in disarray. There is confusion, disorder, and for so many there is panic and alarm. So many live a life of upheaval. This should not be so for the follower of Christ.

The Christian lives in the security of Christ. Trust in God is found in many passages in the Bible. Paul writes in Philippians to “Be anxious for nothing” We are to trust God for everything, large or small…the humanly impossible even the most minute simplistic things should be turned over to God. King David knew God was in control. He wrote about how God is the Lord, the shepherd of our lives. He knows our needs and will provide.

C.S. Lewis in “Mere Christianity” emphasized that trusting God isn’t just about a single act of faith, but a continuous journey. God’s goal is not just trusting God for the moment…it is a continuous journey. We are on a continuous journey in life. God wants us to surrender our lives to Him not just when we are going through the difficult times but even when things are going well.

Trust God! The bottom line in life is “Trust God.” He is in control. If you are walking through “the valley of the shadow of death,” …you need not “fear any evil.” Trust God, walk with God for as David wrote, “For You are with me.” God goes with you. I pray for you. I pray you have truly accepted Christ as your Savior and made Him the Lord of your life.
