Daily Devotion (January 28, 2025)

Acts 2:41-45
41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. 42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.

The first-century church was more than just meeting to sing a few songs and listen to a sermon. It was a community of believers united in Jesus Christ, sharing all things in common, and united in faith and purpose.

They devoted themselves to Jesus Christ, worshiping and working together to strengthen the church. Their fellowship was attractive to others, and because their faith was genuine, they positively influenced those around them. The early church serves as an inspiration and model of faith, unity, and generosity.

Worship in the early church was not a dry, hour-long meeting; it was energetic and full of life.
