“Thy Word Have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalm 119:11
What is the most important book in your library? What is the Book you carry in your mind during the day? Who is your favorite author? What book most defines who you are?
There is one book that should be carried in our heart every day. It is the Book of Life. It is the Book that should be memorized (even though I do not have a great mind for memorization I do know what the Bible says).
We should treasure God’s Word within ourselves. We should not just memorize God’s Word, it should shape our thoughts, actions, and character. Hiding God’s Word in our heart becomes a source of guidance, strength, and protection against sin.
The act of hiding God’s Word is intentional—it involves storing it as a treasure within, where it can guide and protect. This verse also highlights the transformative power of Scripture, suggesting that the more we immerse ourselves in God’s teachings, the better equipped we are to resist temptation and live in alignment with His will.
In verse 9 the writer declared that a person cleanses his way by “obeying God’s Word.” We are to rejoice in the Word of God and continually meditate in its law. Verses 119:25-32 the psalmist asked God for understanding, strengthening, and keeping. When God gave him understanding, he would comply because he treasured the Law.
Do not build your theology based on just one verse. Study the Bible in the context of its writing. Read the verses before and after the verse you are reading.
