Galatians 5:13, “For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”

Having accepted Christ as Savior we have entered into the acceptance and freedom of God. God does not accept us because we are better than others by keeping the law or the rules of God. We are free because Christ has set us free. We do not have to work and keep the rules of law to be saved. We are saved by “the grace of God.”

What some believe is because Christ has set us free we now have the freedom to do whatever we want. Can a person, having accepted Jesus, continue to seek the things of the world and give way to the desires and lusts of the flesh? I like what one person wrote, “No! A thousand times no.”

Belief in Jesus means a committed belief. To believe in Jesus is to commit one’s life to Him. Saving faith is not head knowledge. Satan has the head knowledge and look where it got him. It is not just intellectual consent. Belief in Jesus is the total commitment of a person to all he is and has to Jesus. This commitment gives Jesus everything. It is trusting Jesus to take care of our past sins, our present welfare, AND our future life. This is why Jesus could say in Matthew 6:31–33 (NKJV) — 31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Belief in Jesus is more than an intellectual exercise. It is giving your total life, everything you have and are to God. Paul wrote in Romans 10:9–10, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Sin enslaves. Christ sets us free.
