Proverbs 1:8–9 (NKJV) — 8 My son, hear the instruction of your father, And do not forsake the law of your mother; 9 For they will be a graceful ornament on your head, And chains about your neck.
Who has the responsibility to teach and train a child? The first truth a child must learn is to obey the instructions of the parents. If children are to obey their parents, then they must have parents who are willing to instruct and teach them.
The home is the center of child training and the responsibility of the parents. It is not the responsibility of the schools, the government, or the church to be the primary teacher in a child’s life. God gave children parents for a reason. If a child has not learned to be submissive to her parents, then the child will not be submissive to others who have authority over them, especially God. The home is the first school of instruction in a child’s life. How a child relates to those outside the home can be traced back to how a child is raised in the home.
The Shema would be a great place to begin in teaching our children: Deuteronomy 6:4–5 (NKJV) — 4 “Hear, O Israel, The LORD our God, the LORD is one! 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” We must teach our children to love and honor God our Creator and to have a healthy fear of God. God is God! He is due our respect, and reverence, and He, and He alone has authority over our lives. He then gives the authority to parents in bringing up their children.
Secular education is important. More important is spiritual education! Children should be taught the Bible in the home and in the church! Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV) — 6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. Timothy is a great example of this. Paul writes to him in, 2Timothy 3:14–15, “14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 AND THAT FROM CHILDHOOD YOU HAVE KNOWN THE HOLY SCRIPTURES, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” Timothy was taught in the Home! If America is going to be saved it will not be through government intervention in the life of the family. It will be through the family coming to God and educating our children in God’s Word.
The only “WOKE” America needs is to be WOKE, Awakened, to God and His Word.
