Matthew 11:28–29 (NKJV)

28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

The promise of THE Savior: Come and I will give you rest.

Who is to come? Those who have labored, the heavy laden, exhausted. Those in despair. The ones who are at the point of collapse and ready to collapse under the weight of life. Those who have lived outside of God’s will. Those who have made selfish, self-centered choices. Those who have chosen to run away from God. Those who are beaten up by all those who want to run their lives. Those who are so burdened for the world they live in and are ready to give up, quit, and just lay down in spiritual, emotional, and physical exhaustion. Those who have been appointed to carry the burden of others. (I’m trying to get everyone I can in this group.)

To each one, Jesus, THE Savior says to all COME!

Why come to Jesus? Jesus says, “and I will give you rest.” Many are ready to just throw up their hands in surrender to Satan and the world and say I quit. We need to remember no one has gone too far for Jesus’ love and acceptance to reach them.

What must a person do to receive the rest found in Jesus? Simply put it is just to come to the Savior! The answer to rest is simply coming to Jesus, The Christ. BUT WE MUST COME!

Isaiah 55:1 “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price.”

The first rest Jesus promises is the rest of salvation. This is the rest of deliverance from the bondage of sin. Only Christ can conquer the bondage of sin in our lives. A life committed to Christ is a life of sanctification and satisfaction. It is a rest of confidence knowing God is in control of our lives. It is a rest of encouragement and motivation dwelling in our inner being through the power of the Holy Spirit living in us.

The second rest is that found in encouragement and motivation. It is a rest that motivates us to live for God with enthusiasm and endurance. It is God working in and through our lives.

You can be an encourager to someone today. Let the love and light of Jesus shine through you. You never know what another person is going through or experiencing in life. Don’t pile on them more burdens they cannot carry.
