Daily Devotion (April 12, 2025)

Philippians 4:12-13I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or want. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:5 *”Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”*

This verse reminds us to express gentleness and peace, knowing that God is always close. It’s a beautiful encouragement to reflect His love in our interactions with others. Life is full of ups and downs, highs and lows. At times life is difficult. The apostle Paul knew about the heights and depths in life. At one time he was at the top of the Jewish religious world. He was a Pharisee of Pharisees. He was well versed in the Jewish faith. He knew the words. He knew what he was supposed to do to be seen by others.

Before Christ came into his life, he was a cruel persecutor of those not following the teachings of the torah. But then there was the day he was riding to Damascus and had a real transforming encounter with God. This one who knew no gentleness now writes to “Let your gentleness be evident to all.” An encounter with Christ does not leave us unchanged.

A few examples found in the New Testament:The New Testament is filled with stories of people whose lives were transformed after encountering Jesus. Here are a few notable examples:

1. Mary Magdalene: She was healed by Jesus and became one of His most devoted followers, witnessing His resurrection (John 20:11-18).

2. Nicodemus: A Pharisee who sought Jesus at night to learn about being born again (John 3:1-21).

3. The Woman with the Issue of Blood: She touched Jesus’ garment in faith and was healed (Mark 5:25-34).

4. The Blind Man: He cried out to Jesus for mercy and received his sight (Mark 10:46-52).

5. The Rich Young Ruler: He asked Jesus about eternal life but struggled with giving up his wealth (Matthew 19:16-22).

6. The Centurion: A Roman officer who demonstrated great faith, believing Jesus could heal his servant from a distance (Matthew 8:5-13).

7. The Thief on the Cross: In his final moments, he acknowledged Jesus as Lord and was promised paradise (Luke 23:39-43).

Each of these encounters reveals something unique about Jesus’ character and mission. It reveals something about each person who accepted Christ and even those who rejected Him (The Rich Young Ruler and the other man on the cross.)How has Christ changed your life?
