Psalm 46:1–5 (NKJV)
1 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3 Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah
4 There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.
For those of us who grew up in a nation of freedom and seemingly a belief in God find it is difficult to see what is happening to the United States of America.
It is not unusual to see what is happening. God has been taken out of our nation. Secular hedonistic practices have usurped the believe in the God of the Bible. Pleasure, happiness and self-centered philosophy have become the god of the land. “His Majesty the baby” has become the rule from birth well into adulthood. The baby cries out, “I want it my way and I want it now.” Pleasure has become the rule of the land.
Does history repeat itself? One model of this is England. During World War II many saw the nation’s survival as a sign of divine intervention. Yet today there has been a great rise in secularism and a decline in church attendance. The same can be seen in the United States.
The nations hope is found only in God. “God is our refuge and strength.” God is the unmovable rock of our salvation. Scripture reminds us of steadfast presence and protection. It is in God and God only we find true peace and security. September 11 is coming up. Have we forgotten the attack on America? Does it go into the recesses of our memory as “Pearl Harbor” as for many? Or the assassination of a president? Do we look at the loss of God’s hand on our nation with passive attitude? God must be the foundation of America! But for God to be the foundation this nation was built upon He must be the foundation of the individual. He Must be the Rock of our lives.
Psalm 18:2 “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
Psalm 62:6 “He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved.”
Jesus says in Matthew 7:24–25 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
What or who are you building your life upon?
