Proverbs 4:14–19 (NKJV) — 14 Do not enter the path of the wicked, AND DO NOT WALK IN THE WAY OF EVIL. 15 AVOID IT, DO NOT TRAVEL ON IT; TURN AWAY FROM IT AND PASS ON. 16 For they do not sleep unless they have done evil; And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall. 17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence. 18 But the path of the just is like the shining sun, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. 19 The way of the wicked is like darkness; They do not know what makes them stumble.
We have choices. Choices have consequences.
When evil approaches you run. Run as if your life depended upon you getting as far from evil as you can! Proverbs 4:13 says we are to “take firm hold of instruction” and do not let go! The instruction of God, God’s wisdom is to be held onto, and cherished.
We walk the path of God or the path of the wicked. There is no neutral zone. Any choice we make outside of God’s will and purpose in our lives is walking outside of protection and moving onto the path of the wicked. One may say, “You are making it sound like a life-or-death choice.” It is! Would one take a microscopic drop of septic tank water, put it in a glass of pure water and drink it?
We are to take hold of God’s wisdom and not let go! The best way to avoid being led down the path of evil is to never get on it. In Pilgrim’s Progress, Christian and Faithful enter the town of Vanity against the warning given to them. They encounter a world of hate and Faithful is killed. We must listen to the Word of God. Stay away from the evil of this world. There is no Demilitarized Zone between the Righteousness of God and the Evil of Satanic Sin. What is the warning of this proverb? Do not veer off the path of God. Do not follow the way of evil!
Jude ends in verses 24 and 25 with, “Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. To God our Savior, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power both now and forever.“ Focus on God! Live within the boundaries set by God. There is nothing on the other side that will give you the fullness of life and the peace that passes all understanding.
