1 Peter 2:11–12 (NKJV) — 11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims,
abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, 12 having your conduct
honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as
evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in
the day of visitation.
I am a Christian. So!! How do I live my life?
Most people would say this is my life and I will live it the way I choose. Even
those who do not profess Christ as the Lord of their lives do not necessarily
live their lives the way they choose. Outside of Christ, a person is a puppet
on a string controlled by Satan. They are slaves to sin (Romans 6:20). But
Paul tells us in Galatians 5:1 as Christians “We have been set free and no
longer are bound to the yoke of slavery controlled by Satan.”
We have been set free to live the abundant life found in Jesus. Satan is a
thief. (It should anger Christians knowing what the devil is doing.) Jesus tells
us in John 10:10, “…I have come that they may have life and that they may
have it more abundantly.” We must refuse to be distracted by anything that
would lead us away from Christ and His purpose for our lives. Remember
Jesus said in Matthew 28:18, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven
and on earth.” And in verse 19 He commanded us to go into the world and
make disciples.
How do we as Christians live our lives? We should live in such a way, an
appealing way or as Chuck Swindoll would say “winsome way” that would
lead others to ask us what the key to our happiness is.
B.B. McKinney years ago wrote the song, “Let Others See Jesus in you”
While passing through this world of sin, And others your life shall view,
Be clean and pure without, within, Let others see Jesus in you.
Your life’s a book before their eyes, They’re reading it through and through;
Say, does it point them to the skies? Do others see Jesus in you?
What joy ’twill be at set of sun, In mansions beyond the blue, To find some
souls that you have won; Let others see Jesus in you.
Then live for Christ both day and night, Be faithful, be brave and true,
And lead the lost to life and light; Let others see Jesus in you.
