Daily Devotion (August 6, 2024)
Matthew 24:27 (NKJV)
27For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
I tried to get away from this verse but everywhere I went the verse popped up. I hear so many speculating about the Second Coming of Jesus. I must admit I do not know when He is going to return. I do know He is going to return. I may be dead when He comes again. If so, I know my body will be resurrected because I will be with Him in Heaven. I may still be alive when He comes again. If so, I will be raptured like all the other believers in Christ.
I do see signs of the end times. I see things happening in this world that could be terrifying. I look at the elections coming up in America with the election of a new president…to me this also is chilling. Narcissism vs. incompetent evil.
My question is not when Christ is going to return but what are we, as God’s possession supposed to be doing. I do think Christ gave us the answer just before His ascension. Matthew 28:19–20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
We are not to sit around twiddling our thumbs living a false belief. We are to Go! not sit. We are to baptize the new believers. We are to teach. We are to worship Christ. We do not worship a worship service but are to participate in corporate worship. We are to be trained in living the Christian life. Oh, how many make the profession of faith then go out into the world to be eaten by the lions. They are not disciplined. When a baby is born, we do not get excited and tell the baby now go and live your life without any direction or training, or modeling of how to live in this world. NO! We take that baby and coddle him. We train the child, teach the child how to live in the world. We educate the child.
Do you know parents can face legal consequences for not sending their child to school? I know many will not agree with this statement, but how much more important is Christian, biblical education? It is more important. Yes, we do need to teach our children the three “R’s”. But, more importantly we need to “Train up our children in the ways of God.” (Proverbs’22:6.) What does any of this have to do with the second coming of Christ? I see so many commercials about buying survival kits. The kits do not matter. The greatest survival kit we can have is Jesus. He is coming back for those who have given their life to Him and for Him.
Let us quit living the pseudo-Christian life. Let us live our lives for Jesus. The only way we can do this is to have Jesus living in us.
