John 1:9-13 (NKJV):
“That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.”
“He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.”
“He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.”
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:”
“Who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
“But as many as received Him…” The key question is “have those who profess with their mouths truly received Christ in their hearts.” It is more than speaking the words. It is allowing the “Word” into your heart. There are those who sit in church pews on Sunday’s and live for the devil throughout the week.
Jesus the Creator of the universe is not recognized by his greatest creation…man! The light of Jesus must shine through our lives. No matter the darkness that is in the world the true light of Jesus must shine. Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, “Christian brotherhood is not an ideal which we must realize; it is rather a reality created by God in Christ in which we may participate.” I like how Bonhoeffer said, “may participate.” We are not forced into participation. We are given the opportunity, privilege to participate. Having accepted Christ as our Savior we now allow His light to shine through our lives. We allow the light to shine in the world, the Light comes in our lives and is brought through us into the family of God, the church. We participate as a family sharing the Light of Jesus with one another. We support one another. We also take the light of Jesus into the world… wherever we go we take the Light of Christ with us.
I must ask myself throughout the day, “Am I allowing the Light of Jesus to not only live in me, but to also be seen in my life?”
