1John 1:6-7 “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
God’s truth is to be lived out in life. God’s truth is living in the light of God’s guidance, encouraging other believers to maintain honesty and fellowship with one another.
“Walking in the light” means living according to God’s guidance and truth. When believers live this way, they not only maintain a close relationship with God but also foster a sense of community and fellowship with one another. The latter part of the verse highlights the role of Jesus’ sacrifice in purifying believers from sin, emphasizing the cleansing power of His blood.
For the Christian there is no walking in the shadows of worldly ideals. The Christian life is all about what God desires. He is our compass. Any other measure of life leads us into the abyss of spiritual darkness.
The follower of Christ must exam oneself and live an authentic life founded upon the foundation of Jesus Christ.
We must remember the cost that has gone into bringing the believer to Christ. Followers of Christ remember the cost of salvation was paid for by Jesus on the cross.
There is a cost to the believer. Jesus says in Luke 9:23 “Then he said to them all: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” These are words the modern-day Christian are not taught. Denying self, bearing up the cross daily, and following Christ.
If Luke 9:23 is not followed, obeyed, then we are not living our lives for Christ.
When we accept Christ into our lives then we no longer live for self but for Christ. The cost of accepting and following Christ is worth the commitment. It’s a commitment that brings profound spiritual growth, a sense of purpose, and a closer relationship with God.
