John 1:9-13
That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
These verses are a reminder of the deep truth that Jesus is the Light of the world. Despite the world’s creation through Him, many did not recognize or accept Him. Yet, to those who do receive Him and believe in His name, He grants the incredible right to become children of God.
John is encouraging us to reflect on the nature of our relationship with Jesus. Are we open to receiving His light, even when the world around us seems indifferent or hostile? Do we genuinely believe in His name and embrace the transformation that comes from being born of God?
How does your life bring the Light of Christ into the world?
B. B. McKinney wrote,
“While passing through this world of sin,
And others your life shall view, Be clean and pure without, within, Let others see Jesus in you.”
“Your life’s a book before their eyes, they’re reading it through and through,
Say, does it point them to the skies, Do others see Jesus in you?”
“What joy ‘twill be at set of sun, In mansions beyond the blue,
To find some souls that you have won, let others see Jesus in you.”
“Then live for Christ both day and night, be faithful, be brave, and true,
And lead the lost to life and light; Let others see Jesus in you.”
I remember a time when I felt lost, for real lost. I was in the third grade. I was sick so I was left with my grandmother instead of going to school. She thought I was feeling better in the afternoon and sent me to the store to buy some potatoes. I got lost. Can you imagine! But a simple act of kindness from an elderly couple helped me to get back to my grandparents’ house. It reminded me of Jesus’ light. It was a small gesture, but it made an enormous difference in my day and affirmed my faith. It inspired me to look for ways to reflect that same light to others around me.
