Daily Devotion (December 24, 2024)

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)

This verse defines faith as having a tangible substance or confidence in what we hope for and an inner conviction or evidence of what we do not see. It’s a profound reminder that faith goes beyond the visible and relies on the assurance of God’s promises and presence.

Jesus is our hope…the only hope we have. Jesus has never and will never fail us. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

Jesus said in Matthew 28:20, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Even when we falter, Jesus’ faithfulness remains unwavering because it is an essential part of his character.

Paul writes in Romans 8:38-39: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” All my life I have heard words are cheap. I can talk all day long about having put my faith and trust in Jesus. But the words must be acted upon.

“Words are cheap” and mean nothing unless they are put to the test. I can talk all day long about trusting Jesus but the words are just a puff of hot air until they are put to the test!

Christians live their lives in holiness and righteousness. The Christian lives his life in the integrity of the Word of God. Christians evidence the Word of God to the world. As one person said, “The only Bible many will ever read is found in the life of a professing Christian.”

Christians live their lives in faith. Trusting God not only when everything seems great, but also when it seems the world is falling in on them.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
