Joshua 1:8 (NKJV): “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
A great, and from a Christian perspective, the greatest definition of success is found in the Bible. A person is successful to the degree he knows and follows the will of God.
For the Christian this is the best definition in obedience from a biblical perspective. Being obedient to the Word of God is not very appetizing to the world. Let’s go back to the beginning to see how being disobedient to God worked out for those who were disobedient.
Adam and Eve were disobedient to God and lost their home in the Garden of Eden.
Cain disobeyed God by offering a less acceptable sacrifice to God. Because God rejected his sacrifice, and his brothers was accepted by God he killed his brother. This led to the first murder in the Bible.
King Saul, the first king of Israel, repeatedly disobeyed God and was eventually rejected as king of Israel.
Jonah was swallowed by a great fish, or a whale, this did lead him to obey God.
As great as David was, he was not always obedient to God. He did not always fulfill his responsibility to God. His disobedience led to the death of Uriah and his first-born child.
The Israelites in leaving the bondage of Pharoah and journey to the Promise Land were continually disobedient to God. Even Moses, the leader of the Israelites disobeyed God and lost his opportunity to enter the Promise land.
Many examples could be given from the Bible. But we are looking at today. America is about to lose its freedom. This once great nation was obedient to God. The nation was not perfect, but it did follow God. I remember in my earliest years in public school standing and pledging obedience to the nation. I remember praying the Lord’s Prayer at the beginning of the day. America will fall because it has forsaken God and followed the way of all who have gone before her. America has chosen the way of Satan and the world.
There are consequences in disobedience to God.
