Colossians 3:15–17 (NKJV)

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Who rules your life? God, “the peace of God” should. What is the peace of God? Peace in this passage means to be bound, joined and weaved together. As Christians, believers in Jesus Christ we are weaved together in the love and care of God. We have that peace that Paul wrote about in Philippians 4:7 “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” We have this peace because we have given our lives to God and Christ rules in our hearts.

The peace we have through Christ is the “peace of God.” How do we acquire this peace? We can only experience the true peace of God as we come to know Christ.

How do we acquire this peace is up to each believer. Many walk-through life having claimed the blood of Christ but have never given their lives to Him. One does not automatically experience the true peace of Christ. Notice Paul does not say we automatically have the peace of God. We must “let the peace of God” rule in our hearts. Life sometimes does not go as we choose. Life sometimes seems unfair. So how do we make decisions that follow God’s will for us. We allow God to lead us in our choices, our decisions, how we interact with others. We allow God to fully rule in our lives. We are not to follow the dictates of worldly sin. We are to be willing to let go of differences and circumstances of this world and allow Christ to handle the problems of life through us.

If peace in this lifetime is our desire, then we must allow God to rule and reign in us. Jesus said in John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Find Jesus, Find peace…
