Jeremiah 29:11-13
11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” 12 “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” 13 “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
I wake up with a verse in my head. Today it is one I quote quite often. I know God has a plan for my life. Why is it that we can read the verses and not follow them? Verse thirteen is where we often fail. We half heartedly seek God! This verse says half hearted commitment in following God will not find Him.
Some powerful examples of God calling people to do the impossible: In Exodus 14 God called Moses to lead he Israelites out of Egypt. When they were trapped between the Red Sea and Pharaoh’s army, God instructed Moses to stretch out his hand over the sea, and the waters parted allowing the Israelites to cross on dry ground. Gideon and the Midianites in Judges 6-7 Gideon was called by God to defeat the Midianites with just 300 men. David in 1 Samuel 17 killed the giant Goliath with only a sling and five stones. These are only a few illustrations from the Bible, but they are full of hope and encouragement. They remind us that God has a plan for us and is always there to listen when we call upon Him.
God has a plan and a purpose for your life. There are the giants and enemies we are going to face each in following God. KNOW THIS: Satan hates you. He will do whatever it takes to keep you away from God. Satan does not want you to have any type of relationship with God.
We cannot be half-hearted followers of Christ. We are encouraged by Jeremiah 29:13 to know God is not hiding from us. But we must be diligent and wholeheartedly seeking Him and His will purpose for our lives.
One who is half-heartedly following God is wholeheartedly following Satan.
