Daily Devotion (January 20, 2025)

1 Peter 2:1–3
2 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

Malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and evil speaking should never be a part of the Christians life.

Having accepted Christ our lives change. No person begins their spiritual journey as a mature Christian. Christians have two to support and guide us in our spiritual growth. We have the Word of God and the Holy Spirit.

The follower of God has trusted His Word, the Bible and the Holy Spirit of God. As newborn babies put their trust in their caregivers we put our trust in God’s Holy Spirit. Through the Holy Spirit we are nurtured and learn God. An important concept learned through this is it is impossible to love the truth of God and not love the children of God. God produces the “fruit of the Spirit” in our lives. The first of these is love.

If we have God living in our lives it produces love. We are filled with the Word of God, we study the Word of God, we are to live the Word of God. Having done so we will manifest the Love of God in our daily experiences. Jesus says in John 13:35, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

The church (Members) offers emotional, spiritual and sometimes financial support to members going through difficult times.

Mark Twain is quoted as saying, “Most people are bothered by those passages in the Bible which they cannot understand; but as for me, I always notice that the passages in the Scripture which trouble me the most are those which I do understand.” Maybe this is the reason most “Christians?” do not study or read their Bibles.

Three things’ Christians should do:

  1. Desire the pure milk of the Word of God
  2. Grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ
  3. Lay aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking.

The church prays for and encourages each other.
