Daily Devotion (January 23, 2025)

1 Peter 1:15-16: “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.'”

Isaiah 41:10: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

The Christian is to live a holy life, a life different from the world. Peter encourages followers of Christ to live a holy life. Christians live in the world but are not part of the world.

Isaiah writes God is our refuge and strength. He is not just present in the world but in the life of the Christian.

Christians are called to imitate God’s holiness through their own lives. Christians are to live a life of moral purity, integrity, and a life that reflects God’s character. I am reminded of the old hymn, “Let Others See Jesus in You.” Christians are to live a life in a way the reflects the love and character of Christ. Christians are to be a witness to the world of the love, grace, and mercy of God. Christians are to be an influence of Christ.

Where do Christians get the strength and power do live the Christian life? Luke records Jesus last words in Acts 1:8: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Christians are not called to be passive in the world. We are to be missionaries carrying the Good News of Jesus.

Christians are called to live a holy life that is different from the world.
