Titus 2:1–2 (NKJV)
1 But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:
2 that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience.
What is the preacher to preach and teach? Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 4:2
“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.”
The most important thing the preacher can preach is the Word of God. The preacher does not preach his opinion. He does not preach the popular fad that is happening in other churches. He preaches the word of God. As Paul exhorts Titus to “speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine” so is the preacher to do the same.
The pastor is not to preach worldly wealth and health. He is to preach the Word. The only prosperity gospel found in the Bible is prospering in the sound doctrine of Jesus Christ. Sound doctrine comes from God’s Word. It is the scriptural teaching and preaching that comes from the Bible itself.
So, the question is, are you growing in the sound doctrine of the Word of God? How do you know you are?
· You participate in the church.
· You engage in doing not just sitting.
· You enjoy being in church.
· You are appreciating what God is doing in your life through the church.
· You are cheering others on in the church (even those you do not like).
· You appreciate the worship service even if it does not follow the modern trends of the world.
· You no longer complain.
· You are no longer a part of the problem.
