Proverbs 16:18–19 (NKJV) — 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. 19 Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, Than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Pride! The sin of Satan (Isaiah 14:12-15). The pride of Satan leads to his destruction.

Proud people elevate themselves above others. They like to be seen and heard. One person wrote, “Having little with humility is better than having much with pride.” 1 Peter 5:6 states, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.” “God helps the humble. Jesus the only one living on earth who was above all others humbled Himself before others. He became a servant to His creation (Philippians 2:5-8). Christ did not exalt Himself. He always pointed people to the Father. What Jesus did on earth was not for Himself, it was for us.

Four things Jesus did on earth:

1. He disregarded His right and reputation. Everything He was as God was laid aside.

2. He became a servant not only to His Father but to others.

3. He became a man. He entered this world, His creation, even as a baby.

4. He was obedient to His Father’s will and plan for His life.

Jesus was submissive to God and unselfish in his attitude and actions… (I hope I am not overstating this.) He became a servant to His creation.

As followers of Christ, we are to be humble in our attitude and actions.

It is never about us! It is all about Christ. If you are praised let it be others uncoerced praise you. I remind myself often, “It ain’t all about me.” It is all about God!

Sometimes life is filled with loneliness. What does God’s word say about loneliness?

Psalm 34:18 tells us that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” In Psalm 25:16-17, the writer gives us a prayer to God in a time of loneliness: “I am lonely and afflicted, relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish.”
