Psalm 90:1–2 (NKJV)
1 LORD, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
12 So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.
What is the oldest Psalm in the Bible? That’s right, Psalm 90. It was written by Moses. Moses was born to a Hebrew mother and raised in the house of Pharoah. God had a purpose and plan for Moses. God has a plan and purpose for each of us. We must not waste what God has given to us.
“Teach us to number our days.” Life is short and brief. Life passes swiftly by. Make the most of it. Make the most of each moment. God is at work in each of our lives. Unfortunately, Satan is at work also. Satan has come to seek whom he may destroy. God has come to give each of us life and life more abundantly. David writes in Psalm 37:25 “I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread.”
Each day is important. We are to number the days God has given us. The day should not be wasted. This song means a lot to me, “Many things about tomorrow I don’t seem to understand But I know who holds tomorrow.
And I know who holds my hand. I don’t know about tomorrow; It may bring me poverty. But the one who feeds the sparrow, Is the one who stands by me.” Today is yesterday’s tomorrow. What are you doing to prepare for tomorrow? The God of today is the same God of tomorrow. He gives us this day to live for Him and as we live through the day we are preparing for tomorrow.
How should we live this day? Many Psalms or passages of Scripture could be used to answer the question but Psalm 37 answers what I am thinking now. Psalm 37:1–6
1 Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.
2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb.
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good: Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.
6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.
