Mark 9:34–37 (NKJV)
34 But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest.
35 And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”
36 Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them,
37 “Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.”
The first shall be last and the last shall be first!
Very simply put…It is all about God!
When we are willing to give ourselves to God then we can be a powerful servant for Him.
What were the Disciples arguing about? They were arguing about position, power, fame, wealth. They wanted to know who was going to be the right hand of Jesus.
God’s people must be ambitious, not for self but for God. Jesus said in Matthew 23:12 “And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
There are no lone rangers in the Bible. We all work together to build the Kingdom of God. Romans 12:5 “so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.” Each member of the Body of Christ has spiritual gifts to be used to build the church and the Kingdom of God. Some gifts are done in the background and not seen…these are important. Some are seen in the foreground…these are important. What is most important is that Jesus is glorified.
Use the Gift of God not by just sitting idly by. Each Christian has at least one gift to be used to build the Body of Christ. Use that gift. Use the gift of God to exalt Jesus Christ.
