Matthew 16:24–26
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
This is a difficult concept for many, but life is not all about you. It is all about God. We were brought into this world because of God and His desire and purpose.
A saying from some years ago went something like, “Pay now play later, play now pay later.” If you were born you can be assured one day you will die. What happens to you after you die is determined by what you do now. Paul writes in Romans 10:13 “For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” There is no choice of salvation after death. Have you “called upon the name of the Lord?” Many plays with the idea of salvation now and never truly accept Christ as their Savior AND Lord. Many attends church but never accept Christ as their Savior and Lord. Many will spend eternity in Hell because they thought there would be a tomorrow.
A true follower of Christ worships Him constantly not storing up for the treasures of earth but for the treasures of Heaven. The profits of this world will be lost at death. The treasures of Heaven will be for eternity.
Psalm 37:5–7
5 Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.
6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.
7 Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
