What is the Mission of the Church? Jesus said in Matthew 25:35-36 – 35 “for I was hungry, and you gave Me food; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’”

Ministry is the mission of the church. It is not just ministry to those who attend church it is also ministry to the community, the city, state, nation, and world. My mother often said, love begins at home, and she was right. We are to love one another but that love must reach out into the community and beyond.

What is the Mission of the Church? It is to feed the poor. But who are the poor? We may not realize the “poor in spirit” are not necessarily those who have no material wealth. Being poor in spirit is not knowing Jesus. We must be reaching the “poor” in spirit. Those who do not know Jesus as Savior and Lord.

What is the Mission of the Church? It is to preach and teach the Gospel but how is this done. The Gallup poll recently reported that U.S. church membership fell below 50% for the first time in eight decades. Lifeway Research survey reported a majority (60%) of Americans ages 23-30 said they stopped attending church on a regular basis for at least a year after turning 18. The top reasons were that church members seemed divisive, judgmental or hypocritical.

Do the people in the churches community know why the church exists? Do they know what or who the church stands for?

What is the Mission of the Church? When Jesus was confronted about which commandment was the greatest, He replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.” If the church truly Loves God, it will love others, yes even the lost.

What is the Mission of the Church? It is to disciple the followers of Christ. To help those who have accepted Christ to grow spiritually.

What are you doing to help your church fulfill God’s calling for your church?

The Great Commission of God is not to just go, but as you are going. As you are going in your daily life. As you work, study, shop, play you are going and LIVING the Great Commission.

Satan’s disciples do it every day. God’s disciples must be dedicated to growing in Christ and sharing His love to the world.
