1 John 1:1–3
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life—2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us—3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
There has never been a time that Jesus was not. “That which was from the beginning” had to exist before the beginning. Jesus existed before the world was created. He possessed and today still possesses life and the power of life. It is only by and through Christ we have life. Jesus is the very substance of life.
We need Jesus. He does not need us, we need Him. Without Jesus we are doomed to a life of eternal damnation separated from God. How do we know God loves us and desires for us to love Him and be with Him now and for eternity. Romans 5:8 states, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Can we take lightly the love of God? God did not take His love lightly. John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” Jesus laid down His life for us so we could have more than eternal life. His life was given so we could have an eternal relationship with Him not just in Heaven but here on earth.
Many have become like Adam and Eve in the Garden. They have hidden themselves from God because of Sin. Genesis 3:8 “And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.”
God is seeking to find us. We are hiding. Adam and Eve lost the blessings of “the Garden” because of sin. We have lost the blessing of God’s salvation because we choose to live in sin. God’s love seeks us out. God’s love gives. Our lack of love for God continually runs from Him. We know how great God’s love is for us. Do we demonstrate how great our love for God is?
