1 Thessalonians 5:1–3
1But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you.
2For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
3For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.
Tomorrow, Sunday March 31, 2024, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. An event which occurred over 2 millennia ago. Today we also look for the promised return of Christ. The Christian looks forward to the return of Christ. The one without Christ is too ignorant of Christ and His return to be concerned with the return of Christ.
Whether Jesus returns today, tomorrow, or sometimes in the far future, the reality is we all will face the time we will be face to face with Him in the judgement. I wish we all had been ready is a movie produced in the 1960’s that looked at the end times and the return of Christ.
When will Christ return? We do not know. We do know He will return, but even if He does not, we know death faces all of us. When we were born there was a time stamp placed upon each one of us. Our life on earth has an expiration date placed upon us. If Christ does not come before we die, we will still face the judgment of God. Call upon the name of the Lord now. Physically we will die, but with Christ we know our eternity will be with Him.
“The day of the Lord!” There will come a time even the most devout atheist will know there is a God. In that day God will deal with the wicked. Today a person may be a blasphemer of God, an atheist, one who denounces God. But that day will come when they come face to face with God.
Many stand in bold opposition to God today. There are many who sit in the pews of churches in false worship of God. In that day no one will escape the judgement of God.
War and rumors of war surround us. A headline today reads, “Polish leader warns of ‘prewar era,’ urges European nations to invest in defense.” We are faced with not only war, but climate change, and a myriad of issues promised in Scripture of the end times. Neither I nor anyone can precisely predict when Christ will return. But, one day He will. The most pressing question is are you ready to face His judgement?
Romans 10:13 “For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”
Acts 2:21 “And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved.”
Acts 22:16 “And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.”
2 Chronicles 7:14 “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
