Daily Devotion (March 5, 2025)

John 10:1-6 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6 Jesus used this illustration, but they did not understand the things which He spoke to them.

There are not many ways to God, only One way. To enter God’s kingdom, you must enter through the door leading into the sheepfold. There are those who will lead others to the false gods of this world. Sadly, there are many looking for an easier way into God’s kingdom. The door Christ leads us to is the only legitimate access to God and the only one we are to follow is the true Shepherd.

The Shepherd knows each sheep personally, by name. The sheep recognize the voice of the Shepherd. There is an intimate loving relationship between the sheep and the shepherd.

The sheep trust the guidance of the shepherd. Paul wrote in Galatians 6:7, “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” We, the followers of Christ, must stay true to following the “wolves in sheep’s clothing. The wolves are out there. They misrepresent the true Word of God.

Paul also writes in 1 Corinthians 15:33: “Do not be deceived: ‘Evil company corrupts good habits.'” The bottom line is knowing the Word of God! Listen to what is being proclaimed from the pulpit. If the “preacher” does not follow the Word of God, do not listen to him.

Follow the true Shepherd. He will lead you through the true gate into God’s sheepfold.
