Colossians 2:12–13 (NKJV) — 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,

Our identity is important to us. I am known by how I look, and speak, and the words that come from my mouth. I am also known as a husband, a father, and a grandfather, and hopefully as a friend to many. My vocation is also part of my identity. My most important identity is that of a Christian.

For all Christians, we have been baptized into Jesus Christ. This is not water baptism, but spiritual baptism. When we accepted Christ as our personal savior we were baptized by the Holy Spirit into Christ Jesus. There was a new birth that took place in our lives. Our identity changed. We no longer were serving the world or Satan.

Having accepted Christ, we learn we had no power over sin. Satan had control of our lives. Spiritually we were dead. Now that Christ has come into our lives we have been resurrected from spiritual death to life in Jesus. He now lives in our lives. Christ is our identity and others see Jesus in us, or at least they should.

Having accepted Jesus is a freeing experience. We have been made a new creation in Christ. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 5:17 ,“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

The old hymn says it well. “Let Others See Jesus in You.”

While passing through this world of sin, And others your life shall view,

Be clean and pure without, within, Let others see Jesus in you.

Your life’s a book before their eyes, They’re reading it through and through; Say, does it point them to the skies, Do others see Jesus in you?

What joy ’twill be at set of sun,

In mansions beyond the blue, To find some souls that you have won; Let others see Jesus in you.

Then live for Christ both day and night, Be faithful, be brave, and true, And lead the lost to life and light; Let others see Jesus in you.

Chorus:

Let others see Jesus in you, Let others see Jesus in you; Keep telling the story, be faithful and true, Let others see Jesus in you.
