Daily Devotion (May 1, 2025)
Lamentations 3:22-23 “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Psalm 143:8 “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.”
Psalm 118:24 “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Each of these verses carries a message of renewal, trust, and gratitude.
Lamentations was written during the Babylonian invasion. Jeremiah’s preaching of judgement was probably tiresome to the people’s ears, but they were the words of God. They were words of hope. Jeremiah also spoke of God’s “Great Love!” The nation had fallen away from God. God’s judgment had fallen upon His people. God loved Israel and because of His love they were not consumed. Jeremiah wanted the people to know of God’s great love and faithfulness.
The psalmist wrote of the unfailing love of God. He wrote of entrusting his life to God. We are to trust God. God has a way already laid out for us. As we journey through the day, we should follow God’s will and purpose for us. The psalmist entrusted his life to God.
I must admit it is far easier to type these words than to actually follow them. But this is what faith and trust are all about. Words are cheap. Actions do speak louder than words. Psalm 118:24 reminds us that each day is a creation of God. He is allowing us to participate in them. The day may be good, bad, indifferent in our lives no matter what we are to rejoice in the day trusting God. We are reminded of God’s unfailing love for us. God watches over us. God protects us. God guides us. We are to follow Him and rejoice in Him. To “rejoice” in God is to live your life for God no matter the circumstances.
