Revelation 3:16–17 (NKJV) — 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—

God has not promised us prosperity in this world. It is easily discovered that the church that “has need of nothing” is one that has no need for God. This is not to say there is anything wrong with having prosperity, or money, but we must be sure we do not allow the prosperity to take our focus off God.

The lukewarm Christian is comfortable and complacent. There is no fire burning within them. They go about everyday life as if God does not exist. The two men on the road to Emmaus without Jesus felt downhearted and discouraged. When Jesus came and walked with them something changed. They were, as Luke 24:32 records, “And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”

Walking the path God has laid out is not always easy. The path may be filled with many pitfalls and painful thorns and stumbling blocks. One may at times feel lost. I think of Abraham in Genesis 22, and God telling him to offer his only son Isaac to Him. Without hesitation the next morning Abraham rose early and took Isaac. Abraham was not lukewarm! He believed, and trusted God no matter the sacrifice. (Abraham did not know the end of the story.)

There are times God calls us to do the humanly impossible. Sometimes God calls us to step out in faith. Sometimes God says stop walking the way of the world, be different. We are to adjust our lives to God not the world.

Choose to be different! Stick out like a sore thumb. Let others know you are more than a superficial Christian. Be on fire for Jesus. Allow the fire of Jesus to burn in your life. “Let Others See Jesus in You.” Verse four of this song says, “Then live for Christ both day and night, Be faithful, be brave, and true, and lead the lost to life and light; Let others see Jesus in you.”

People will not see Jesus in our prosperity or our failures in life. They will see Jesus in our faithfulness to Him no matter the circumstances of life. Today choose to walk the way of Jesus.
