2 Timothy 4:3 – “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers.”
The time has come. No longer do they want to hear the truth of the word of God. Fortunately, there are many who still do.
We must preach the Word of God! The church must not only teach and preach the Word of God but live the Word of God.
This verse is a warning from the Apostle Paul to Timothy about a future time when people will reject true teachings in favor of messages that align with their own desires. It emphasizes the importance of staying true to sound doctrine and being distrustful of teachings that simply cater to what people want to hear.
If the preacher tickles the itching ear more will come. Decades ago, I had a dream of coming up to a hole in the ground. Crying out from the hole were those in Hell yelling, “Why did you not tell me about Jesus and His salvation!”
Paul writes in 2 Timothy 4:2, “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.”
Winston Churchill in a speech at Harrow School said, “Never give in—never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.” We live in exceedingly difficult days. We are not to give in. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 16,13, “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.” God has equipped us to stand in Ephesians 6:13, “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
As a follower of Christ will you stand firm in the faith and witness for Christ?
