Romans 6:12
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it
in its lusts.
Hebrews 3:16–17
16 For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of
Egypt, led by Moses?
17 Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who
sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness?
SIN! “Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than
you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.”
Sin is anything we “Say, Do, or Think that is displeasing to God. The little
description of sin comes from the Child Evangelism Fellowship. When we sin
it is against God. Sin is infectious. One person’s sin does not just affect the
one who sins, it touches the lives of others. Sin never builds up, it only
destroys. We see it in the world today. It is the slow burning away of
everything that is good. It is what got Lucifer thrown out of Heaven along
with one-third of the angels. It is what destroyed Adam and Eve in the
Garden. It is the infectious disease that kept the Israelites rescued by Moses
from going into the Promised Land. Sin is defined in many ways in the Bible:
Missing the Mark, Wandering from the path, Crookedness, Rebellion,
Trespassing, Desolation, Lack of reverence for God, Lawlessness, Intrinsic
Evil…
There are many other words for sin in the Bible. Suffice it to say, Sin is
missing the mark. Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fall short of the
glory of God.” We live in a fallen world…which is no excuse for us to sin.
The one who loves God lives by faith in God. Hebrews 10:38, “NOW THE
JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no
pleasure in him.” And Habakkuk 2:4, “Behold the proud, His soul is not
upright in him; BUT THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY HIS FAITH.”
How we live our lives shows our faith in God, or our faith in God dictates
how we live our lives.
We live in a fallen world. The “fallen”, those who are without Christ need the
saved, Christians, to live their lives for God. Accepting Christ is not a license
to sin! For a Christian to live in sin is spitting on the Cross of Christ! Paul
writes in Romans 6:12–14:
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it
in its lusts.
13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to
sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your
members as instruments of righteousness to God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but
under grace.
