Daily Devotion (October 19, 2024)

Luke 19:41–44 (NKJV)
41 Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,
42 saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.
43 For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side,
44 and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

Is it possible that Jesus is weeping over America?

Jesus loves America as He loves all the nations. God has blessed this nation over the decades. America, even in its imperfection has been a nation that worshipped God. The bible has been a guide to our path of victory. Jesus praying for Israel expressed the ignorance that had grown in the nation. The Israelites were a very religious people. On the surface they looked good, but their outward appearance was superficial.

How often do we see this today? We may wear the garb of religion when we meet together for worship but how often do we leave a “worship” service spiritually starving. 168 hours in a week and we give God one hour. We put on the spiritual garb and sing the songs of praise. And we leave empty. Our worship is not turned towards God…it is the inner self we are feeding.

Israel was destroyed. America is destroyed. We have exchanged the worship of God for the worship of lesser things. We have replaced spirituality with emotions. We have replace the songs of praising God with songs that fill our emotional needs.

The destruction of a nation is not found in the government, but in the lives of professing Christians. I say “professing” because many profess with their mouth but do not believer in their hearts. Romans 10:9–10 “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” There is no salvation found in a person who just professes with his mouth. Salvation is found in the heart. A heart transformed by God. A heart that has Christ living in it. Do you really believe?
