Psalm 23 (NKJV)
A Psalm of David.
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.

The Lord IS my Shepherd. As the sheep follow the shepherd, we as God’s followers follow Him. Sometimes we go astray but God our Shepherd is there to gather us back to the flock. The true sheep follow the Shepherd. The Sheperd will provide for the Sheep. He leads us His followers to Green Pastures. He leads us beside the still waters. The Shepherd leads us and when we try to go our way, He is there to bring us back into the fold.

When we are tired, He give us rest. When we walk through the valley, He is there to guide us. We know there is nothing that can attack us and succeed because whatever is there, God is greater.

We have a tendency to stray from God, but He is persistent in bringing us back to Him.

This Psalm highlights God as

  • Our Shepherd
  • Our provider
  • Our restoration and righteousness and
  • Our Protection in Adversity.
