1 John 2:3–6
3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.
4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a
liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By
this we know that we are in Him.
6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He
walked.
What are the commandments of God?
-Remember God is God
-Don’t worship anything but God
-Don’t use God’s name in vain The “Oh my G.d”, Saying Jesus’ name
as an expletive is taking God’s name in vain
-Set aside Sunday for the exclusive worship of God
-Your parents are important…Honor them
-Each person is a creation of God…do not take their lives either by
death or word
-Marriage is sacred…never defile the unity between a husband and wife
-Don’t take what doesn’t belong to you
-Don’t lie
-Don’t crave what someone else has.
Do you keep any of these commandments?
We examine these Commandments and know we are not perfect. We have
failed to keep them. James 2:10 states, “Whoever breaks one
commandment is guilty of breaking them all.” (That does not give us a
license to intentionally break the others.)
How do we know we love God? We Desire to Keep His Commands!
A Christian, A follower of Christ, A Disciple of Christ does not choose to sin!
A person cannot say he has fellowship of God and continue living in spiritual
darkness. And yet, we find ourselves moving towards sin. 1 John 1:6 says,
“If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie
and do not practice the truth.” So, how do we keep ourselves from sin?
- Believe in the name of Jesus. Believe that He shed His blood so
you could be free from iniquity. - Keep on believing in Jesus. Fill up your mind, body, soul, and
spirit with Jesus Christ.
Fill your life with the fuel that leads to holiness.- 1 Peter 2:2 “as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word,
that you may grow thereby,”
