Philippians 2:12–13
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my
presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own
salvation with fear and trembling;
13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good
pleasure.
What does it mean to “work out your own salvation?” It is very simple. The
Greek word means to work to the finish, to completion, and to perfection.
When a person has been saved he is to get busy obeying God! Outside of
salvation, a person was perfectly obedient to Satan. The life of a Christian
should be lived in perfect obedience to God.
When we accept Christ, God does not leave us alone to work out our
salvation. He is at work in us. He is the “energizer bunny” who never stops
or quits on us. God works in us, stirs us, and awakens us to get up and get
going.
The sad thing is, how many ignore the calling of God. Do we just sit when
God calls? Do we just do our own thing? Are we complacent in living our
Christian life? We may wonder why our nation is in trouble. Maybe it is
because we have ignored the calling of God!
Paul wrote these words to the church at Colossae:
Colossians 3:1–4
1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above,
where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in
glory.
We were not saved to quit, give up, retire, or stop doing. We are to keep on
keeping on doing God’s will in our lives. To follow Him…wherever He leads.
God will let you know when you can stop.
