Daily Devotion (September 30, 2024)
Interesting – September is the ninth month of the Gregorian calendar. Its name comes from the Latin word “septet,” which means “seven.” This is because, in the early Roman calendar, September was originally the seventh month.1 John 4:7,8 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 1 John 4:16 16And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. Christians have experienced the love of God. To experience the love of God is to love others. (Of course, there is more to it than this). As we grow in our Christian faith our relationship with God, we experience more of God and His love. To love God is to love others…even those we might consider the unlovable. For those who have accepted Christ into their lives the love of God dwells. Those who know God are privileged to have the love of God in them. When we love God, we love others. Loving others is proof we love God. Loving the unlovable is proof we have the love of God in us. It is only through the love of God we can be called the children of God. The world cannot understand this love. Only those who have truly accepted Christ into their lives can fathom God’s love.Warren Wiersbe writes, “Love does not define God, but God defines love.” The love of God is the very essence of God. It is spiritual and holy. A person who has accepted Christ now shares the divine nature of God. God is love! Christians should, must love one another. We may not like or love what another person does, but we are to love them. (Love does not mean we like what another person is doing. It does not mean we go along with what another person says or does.) Just think about this; 1 John 4:10 “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” God loved you even before you accepted Him into your life. Christ died for you while you were still in rebellion against Him. For God! So Loved! “Y0U!”. How much do you love God? How you treat others demonstrates your love for God.
